 BLACKCURRANTS

Plant 4-5ft apart and prune branches hard to 3-4” at planting. In future years cut out wood that has fruited after picking and leave young wood for next year’s fruit, which is ready July-August.

BLACKCURRANT Ben Connan

Early-late July. High yields of large fruits with good flavour on compact bushes. Resistant to leaf curling midge: not susceptible to mildew.

July-August. Very high-yielding variety resistant to gall mite. Very vigorous but needs a sheltered position. Is said to have the best flavoured fruits.

Late July-August. Fruits late but also flowers late so misses the frosts. A large-berried, sweet currant, heavy crops on compact, healthy bushes.

Late July. Flowers late avoiding frosts. Large berries of good flavour. Useful on poorer soils. A strong grower.

Mid July. Highly productive with large berries of good flavour. Compact bushes, barely 3ftx3ft so easy to pick. This frost-resistant variety is already proving excellent.
